Cultural Heritage in Danger
Under this title, we want to bring attention to the threats endangering cultural heritage during armed conflicts. In this, we do not intend to confirm damages or destruction at specific heritage sites. Rather, we are looking to highlight - in cooperation with specialised researchers and experts - the significance of the cultural heritage in the affected regions and to show how severe the loss of this cultural heritage would be.
The Conflict in Tigray (Ethiopia)
In the
first issue, we focus on the endangered cultural heritage in the region of
Tigray in the north of Ethiopia. Following a short presentation of the
conflict, Dr Iris Gerlach, researcher at the German Archaeological Institute, will
showcase the archaeological heritage of the region by presenting different
sites.
